Tasks
edTPA is an authentic assessment built on the completion of three tasks: planning, instruction, and assessment. Teacher candidates in their student teaching experience select a group of learners (or a focus learner for special educators) and fully document in writing, through video, and with student work samples the entire process of planning, teaching, and assessing a series of related lessons. Each of the three tasks includes authentic artifacts and extensive teacher candidate commentary that demonstrates the candidate’s preparation and execution of the instructional experience.
Task 1: Planning for Instruction and Assessment In Task 1, candidates describe plans for the learning segment (3-5 consecutive lessons) and explain how instruction is appropriate for the students and the content they are teaching. Task 2: Instructing and Engaging Students in Learning In Task 2, candidates demonstrate through video recording, and written analysis, and commentary how they support and engage students in learning. Task 3: Assessing Student Learning In Task 3, candidates analyze both student learning and student use of language within the content area. |
